Professional Competency Reflection Report
Description
Throughout my first semester at Gulf Medical University, I managed to keep 100% attendance across all my courses including lectures, practicals, extra sessions, and rescheduled classes. Throughout the semester, I made sure I was there in every session on time, as well as prepared. Although attending classes may seem routine, it required ongoing commitment and a bit of planning. This experience gave me a clear opportunity to demonstrate the professionalism expected within the UAE Medical Competencies framework.
Feelings
At the start of the semester, I felt motivated yet slightly anxious about adapting and getting used to everything. Keeping up perfect attendance percentage helped me feel responsible, as well as boosted my confidence as a new medical student at Gulf Medical University. Of course there were days when the tiredness kicked in and/or the workload was high/heavy, but sticking with it strengthened my sense of purpose and of course reminded me on why professionalism matters.
Evaluation
There were plenty of positives that came out of this great experience. Being in every session meant I could stay engaged, understand the material of courses much better, and take part without feeling like I was catching up. It has also showed me a great level of respect towards my lectures of which I felt was important. On the other hand, the main challenge I encountered was time management. Keeping up with all the work as well as studies while making sure I did not miss a single class took steady effort and a bit of adjusting along the way.
Analysis
Professionalism is built on things including reliability as well as respect. In medical education, good percentage of attendance is seen as one of the first signs of professional commitment by reflecting the standards expected from us as a healthcare professionals. By keeping a perfect attendance record, I have showed that I have been reliable and most importantly, excited as well as motivated to learn Medicine. We have to know that professionalism does not start in the hospital but it develops through the habits and our attitudes we build every day.
Conclusion
In conclusion to this reflection report, this experience has shown how important and responsibility are in my medical education. While I successfully upheld the standard of professionalism through attendance, I have also realised the need to improve my time management things a bit more, so that my academic performance and well-being remain balanced and better at moving forward with my Medical Education Journey as a Doctor of Medicine Student At Gulf Medical University.
Action Plan
Moving forward, I plan to always keep up excellent and strong attendance across all future semesters. I will develop a structured weekly schedule to manage my workload much better and more organised. Furthermore, I will seek opportunities to show professionalism beyond just being present like teamwork and preparation for labs and sessions. All of this will help me continue developing into a resposible and a great future Doctor.
